Ambition, Resilience & Performance
Motivation, Inspiration, Leadership, Achievement, Team Work, Ambition, Resilience, Performance, Positive Attitudes and Results
Richard Hume is an international motivational and inspirational speaker, who has been entertaining audiences with his humour, tales of adventure and inspiring stories for many years. He is equally at ease delivering passionate keynote addresses, providing powerful and humorous speeches, enhancing your team building/leadership programs or speaking at your local social and educational establishments.
Richard’s journey began back in 1997 when he was diagnosed with a severe spinal curve and was told he wouldn’t do any sport for the foreseeable future. In 2003, through sheer determination, ambition and addressing all the aspects of preparation and performance he found himself on the start line of the UK ironman. During the next 6 years he achieved multiple marathons, ironman, ultra distance swims, runs and triathlons leading up to the 2008 triple ironman triathlon. The small task of an 11km Swim, 540km bike ride and a 126.6km run ending in a world top 10, fastest triple iron time. It was meant to be the end, the final goal, but undoubtedly there was more to come……

In January 2010, he was trained and ready to go. Having only had a handful of rowing lessons, he embarked on his greatest adventure. 72 days, 8 hours, 44 minutes and 8 seconds (and YES, he does remember the last 8 seconds!) of soul searching, unbelievable discomfort, massive highs and massive lows, he arrived in Antigua to a rapturous welcome. During this time, the emotions he experienced, the sheer elation and despair along the way only crystalised in his mind the corporate and personal parallels that he so passionately weaves into his down to earth, easy to understand and “relate to” presentations.
What makes Richard so unique is his desire to approach all manners of different situations, disciplines and challenges despite his limitations that occasionally rears its ugly head. In 2024 he ran 30 marathons in 30 days, only the 4th male Australian to do so on an official course, with what turned out, to be 7 breaks in his spinal rods.
He speaks with the upmost respect for his audience intertwining his stories, his passion, his experience with your desired messages. His inspiring story offers all who hear it, a recipe for success in today’s tough business climate. His life experiences are not solely based around sport having designed, built, owned and managed an eco-tourist resort; he is all too aware of other challenges that we all face in our everyday lives.
Some key elements of his presentation include but are not limited to: Short, medium and long term goals. The power of communication, team work, resilience linking the positive attitude with the desired reward. How the process of performance, from the dream to the final outcome can allow individuals to achieve goals that they never thought possible AND help others to achieve theirs too. It’s the 100 percenters, the ones who look at the full picture who make a real difference in their own lives and those around them.
72 days, 8hrs, 44min & 8 seconds. La Gomera to Antigua.
Richard has been the key subject to much written and spoken press, is comfortable in front of any audience, microphone and/camera. He is well travelled having been brought up in England but now calls Australia his home. He has raised over $250,000 dollars for various charities both in Australia and abroad, continues to push the boundaries of what should and shouldn’t be possible. His approach to life, his zest for people along with his ambitions for the future will leave you with little doubt, that you, your co worker, your family and friends, can achieve more, can think differently and create an environment when you are able to succeed in an otherwise competitive planet we all call home.
Attendees at conferences held many years ago, still feel inspired and rejuvenated by Richard’s messages and passion. Will your delegates have the opportunity to say the same thing?
